250LEX celebrates Lexington’s business community

Mayor Linda Gorton today joined representatives of Commerce Lexington, the 250Lex Commission, and the Red Mile to highlight Lexington Business Month, part of the city’s year-long 250th anniversary celebration.

“We’re now over halfway through our 250th anniversary, and there’s still so much more to come,” Gorton said. “In August, we are celebrating the legacy of the many local businesses that call Lexington home.”

Commerce Lexington President & CEO Bob Quick said, “We are so excited to honor and recognize the business community as part of this year’s 250Lex celebration. Business has played a critical role in Lexington’s history, and the chamber of commerce has been part of our city’s success for most of it.  The chamber has roots dating back to 1797, while the organization you know today as Commerce Lexington got its start in 1881. Businesses of all types and sizes really make us unique, and so many of them have a global reach that provides great visibility for Lexington.”

Business Month includes a celebration of businesses celebrating milestone anniversaries in 2025, like the Red Mile, which is marking its 150th year.

Shannon Cobb, Chief Operating Officer at The Red Mile said, “We are honored to host the kickoff of Business Month for the 250Lex celebration, as we celebrate our own 150-year anniversary in the heart of Lexington. The Red Mile is a recognized landmark in the heart of Lexington and represents a connection to the city’s heritage, culture, and economy. Likewise, Lexington’s uniqueness as a vibrant city provides a great experience for our racing fans from around the world.”

In partnership with Commerce Lexington, 250Lex plans to recognize Lexington’s business community during an upcoming Lexington Legends Game on Wednesday, August 13.

250Lex Business Month Ambassador Alan Stein said, “For 250 years, business in all its forms has been the foundation of Lexington’s growth and success. From equine, to healthcare, to agriculture, to manufacturing, to a thriving retail and culinary scene, our business community has led the way.”

Lexington’s business community will be recognized during the August 13 Lexington Legends Game at Legends Field, 207 Legends Ln. The game begins at 6:45 p.m. In celebration of the city’s 250th anniversary, businesses can purchase tickets at a reduced price. Tickets can be purchased at the link here.
