Time to celebrate! Mayor Linda Gorton today announced several key events for the first quarter of the city’s upcoming 250th anniversary celebration.

“2025 is getting closer by the day, and we’re ready to hit the ground running,” Gorton said today. “We’re planning a year-long celebration that will make our 250th anniversary a memorable experience for everyone who loves this city.”

The 250Lex Commission will feature several events each month. Local businesses, restaurants, and non-profit organizations are involved in hosting these events. Events held each month in 2025 will focus on different aspects of Lexington. January will be focused on health and wellness; February, history; and March, education. January programming will involve Lexington’s various healthcare providers, including UK Healthcare, Baptist Health and CHI St. Joseph Health. The YMCA has developed programming for its
locations across Lexington.

Stephanie Arnold, YMCA of Central Kentucky Executive Director of Philanthropy and 250Lex Ambassador for January said, “The 250Lex Health and Wellness committee is excited to bring activities and events to the community in 2025 to inspire and support our neighbors in setting goals for a healthier self. From traditional wellness initiatives, like movement and nutrition, to exploring the mental and spiritual benefits of connectedness and community, there will be opportunities for the whole Lexington community to participate.”

In February, programming will be focused on different aspects of Lexington’s rich history. Events will be offered in partnership with the Lexington History Museum, and various historic landmarks. A Sunday Supper Series will invite residents to learn more about Lexington’s past, present and future. March will be focused on education. 250Lex is working with both local public and private schools to produce inclusive and interesting programming. Highlighting the month is a weekend-long Scavenger Hunt that will challenge Lexington residents to learn more about their town.

Eunice Beatty, Co-Chair of the 250Lex Commission said, “As we get closer to the kick-off of our 250th anniversary, we are excited to see our vision come to life. With the support of our commission and outstanding community partners, we are bringing our community programming that can be enjoyed by the whole family.”

The 250th celebration will begin with a New Year’s Eve party at Central Bank Center. More details about upcoming 250Lex events and activities can be found at www.250lex.com.
