Kodo Drummers coming to Lexington this March

The performance is presented in partnership with the 250Lex Commission and Greenroom Exchange, a recipient of a 250Lex Cultural Grant. Greenroom Exchange creates cross-cultural experiences by bringing international musicians and artists to the Bluegrass. To learn more about the performance and purchase tickets, click here.
GreenRoom Exchange Chair Connie Milligan said, “As part of the 250Lex celebration, GreenRoom Exchange is proud to present KODO, the world’s premier Taiko drumming group from Japan. This group has a four-decade history of excellence, as guardians of the 1,4000-year tradition of their highly disciplined style of theatrical drumming. We hope you will join us for this special event at the UK Singletary Center for the Arts on March 4th!”
Warabe is a performance that revisits the ensemble’s early repertoire – blending simple forms of taiko expression that highlight its unique sound, resonance, and physicality. The highly athletic drummers create a universe of sound and emotion through thunderous percussion and polished theatricality.
“I’m excited to have this talented group of performers at the center of our programming in March,” Mayor Linda Gorton said. “Our 250Lex team has planned a year-long celebration that has something for everyone.”
The Cultural Grant program was designed to help Lexington residents produce high quality, meaningful programming that focuses on tourism; broadening and diversifying participation and engagement among residents and visitors in the anniversary; showcasing Lexington’s businesses, people, cultural, or social organizations; or creating meaningful events that will continue beyond 2025.
The performance is set to take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, at the Singletary Center.
