January 2025 is here … time to celebrate 250Lex Health and Wellness Month!

“We’re hitting the ground running … literally … with a focus on healthcare and wellness activities,” Mayor Linda Gorton, said today.

Events held during each month of 2025 will focus on different aspects of Lexington. Following Health and Wellness Month, February events will be focused on Lexington’s history. Health and Wellness programming is sponsored by University of Kentucky Healthcare, Baptist Health, and CHI-Saint Joesph Health.

250Lex Commission Member Lisa Higgins-Hord said, “Health and wellness is a journey the majority of us all tend to embark on in January. Our good intentions are sometimes a ritual that tends to fizzle out midway through the month, but this year let’s set realistic goals together for the entire year and have fun as a community by participating in opportunities 250LEX has created with its partners. Make this the year you choose to become a healthier you.” Higgins-Hord is assistant vice president for community health at UK.

YMCA
Kick off 2025 with a free weekend of fitness, fun, and wellness at the YMCA! Whether you’re looking to explore new exercise options, learn about nutrition, or simply reconnect with your health goals, we’ve got something for everyone at our Jump Start the New Year events taking place Jan. 4-5 at all four Lexington YMCA locations. These events are free for members and non-members but registration is required. More information available here.

250 BLOOD DONORS
In partnership with the Kentucky Blood Center and National Blood Donor Month, 250Lex has a goal of bringing 250 new blood donors to the Kentucky Blood Center in January. Lexington donors can visit either Kentucky Blood Center donor center location – Andover or Beaumont – throughout the month to join in the 250LEX celebration. Donor centers are open Mondays – Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WINTER JAZZ, BLUES, AND SOUL SERIES
The Winter Jazz, Blues, and Soul Series at the historic Lyric Theatre will bring together community members of all ages. Local bands hailing from Louisville, Lexington, and surrounding counties will deliver authentic jazz, soul-stirring blues, and uplifting soul rhythms to carry attendees through the cold of winter. Shows will occur at the Lyric Theatre from 6-8:30 p.m., January 9, 16, 23, and 30.

FITNESS FAIR
On January 19, Lexington’s fitness community will be on display during a one-day “Fitness Fair” at Central Bank Center. 40 different gyms, studios, and facilities will showcase their offerings, with live demonstrations and the option to interact and learn about everything from cycling to yoga.

BASKETBALL WEEK
The first-ever, city-wide salute to our love of basketball connects the University of Kentucky, Transylvania, and local high school games. The week, January 24 – February 1, will take a look back at the great players, coaches, and games that put Lexington on the map for basketball excellence.
