The three pillars that earned Lexington the title of “Athens of the West” were education,
culture and medicine. And now, 250 years later, the healthcare community it more
robust than ever before. The residents of Lexington are fortunate to have access to
nationally ranked systems and a commitment to infrastructure that encourages wellness
throughout the city. Our parks continue to grow and flourish, providing easy free access
to a litany of services to all age groups and abilities. During WELLNESS MONTH in
January, there are ample opportunities to experience the focus on becoming “A
Healthier You” now and all year long.

Founded a year before the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Lexington has had a historic 250 years. Starting as a small rural outpost, Lexington has blossomed into one of America’s great cities. This month we will acknowledge the people, places and events that have shaped Lexington into the city it is today. During Black History Month, we will uplift and pay tribute to the many contributions African American’s have made to Lexington’s past, present and future. Please join us for many events as we celebrate and acknowledge Black History Month.
